This sounds like a pretty nice exhibit going down at the Peer Gallery. From Eco Art Blog:
Sebastian Lemm: Editing Nature
Peer Gallery, NYC
Through April 26, 2008This show by the German-born, NYC-based artist opened last Thursday and I first read about it on the excellent blog Heart as Arena. Lemm’s website has lots of interesting images and his more recent work deals with nature and natural elements in a haunting way. And the “Lapse” series combines trees with what appear to be photoshopped abstractions of the parts of the images. Really good stuff.
Here’s a quote from his artist statement:
My work is informed by nature in a broad sense. Visually, I am fascinated by seemingly random structures in the natural environment and I see parallels to patterns or events in my own life. Taking a more wide-ranging definition of nature, I am attracted to subtleties of human interactions, the subconscious and physics’ theories about dimensions that are outside of our perception. Although these ideas may not be inherently obvious in my images, they do have a significant impact on my artistic process.
