The deadline for the city qualifying for over $350 million in additional transit aid from the federal government by passing congestion pricing is quickly approaching. There is a growing consensus that congestion pricing is the right thing to do for the environment, improving quality of neighborhood life, generating revenue for mass transit and reducing pollution we breath in everyday.
Mayor Bloomberg (Independent) supports it.
Governor Paterson (Democrat) supports it.
City Council speaker Christine Quinn (Democrat) supports it.
Majority Leader of the State Senate Joseph Bruno (Republican) supports it.
And the Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (Democrat) has introduced the necessary legislation in the State AssemblyAll the major city newspapers - Daily News, NY Post, NY Times and Newsday have all come out to support it.
All major environmental organizations - Sierra Club, Environmental Defense, Transportation Alternatives League of Conservation Voters and the NRDC have come out to support it
The MTA has included it in their capital plan which funds major projects like the full length Second Avenue Subway.
