From Gothamist:

First Lady Laura Bush was in Battery Park yesterday to help the National Park Foundation launch First Bloom, a program to encourage children in urban centers to learn about the environment and what they can do for their parks and neighborhoods.

The program sounds awfully nice.  And regardless of how you feel about this administration, it’s nice to see the first lady carrying on Lady Bird Johnson’s conservation legacy.  And we love that the Lower East Side Girl’s Club, who played such an instrumental role in the wildly successful Step It Up climate change rallies we organized last year, were there helping out.  Fitting.
