From the Bronx River Alliance:

Bronx River Rising: A Bronx River Alliance - StoryCorps Partnership

The Bronx River Alliance, with the support of StoryCorps (www.storycorps.net), has begun an oral history project to capture the oral stories of those that have touched or been touched by the river. To date six people, including Ruth Anderberg, founder of Bronx River Restoration back in 1974, have shared their stories in the form of a forty minute conversation  and more are scheduling themselves to be interviewed at the Foley Square StoryCorps booth.  If you have a story to tell, contact Education Director Damian Griffin, at damian.griffin@parks.nyc.gov or (718) 430-4614, for more information and to add on to this incredible story.

Thus far, the following Bronx River folk have contributed as interviewees: Ruth Anderberg, Bob Alpern, Nancy Wallace, Maria Torres, Nessie Payton, and Alexie Torres. Stephen Devillo, Teresa Crimmens, Linda Cox, Kellie Terry-Sepulveda, Damian Griffin, and Michelle Williams have also participated as interviewers.

Download Gerry Segel’s “Kid by the River” and Support the Alliance

Gerry Segel, a musician from the Bronx, has been accepted as an artist on the E Folk Music website and has posted several of his newest songs on the site.  Most of the music Gerry has posted is available at no cost.  However, downloading his song about the Bronx River, “Kid by the River,” which he debuted at the Bronx River Festival this past June, costs 98 cents.  Gerry is donating proceeds from the song to the Bronx River Alliance! Thanks, Gerry, for your terrific song and for your generosity.
