Coal Kills Rally Today!

Wish we’d gotten to this sooner.  From NYPIRG and NYC Sierra Club:

The Coal Kills Rally is today!  I hope you  you can all come out to ensure that we send the strongest and clearest message by our sheer size that we will no longer stand for the coal industry building new plants.  Please, if you haven’t already, send this email to your staff, members, and anyone else you know who cares about the environment and wants to do something to protect it.

Today, March 5th the New York Coal Trade Association will gather at the Millennium Broadway Hotel to celebrate their year of profit at the expense of the environment. NYPIRG and the Sierra Club will be there to let them know that America is ready to quit buying their dirty coal.

Instead of burning coal, the largest source of global warming and hazardous mercury pollution in the United States, we can generate power and create jobs with clean energy sources like wind, solar, and geothermal.

This event will  receive local media attention and will be covered nationally by CNN.  Please make sure your group is represented.
When: Thursday, March 5th @ 5pm

Where: Millennium Broadway Hotel, 145 W. 44th St.
What: Coal Kill Rally!
Note: Please bring signs to carry; we will be providing you with hats, coal sludge samples from Tennessee, and a person dressed up as a polar bear. Wear your Sunday best! We will be meeting at 4:45 pm at the Starbucks right around the corner (1500 Broadway) to get organized.

Contact: Lauren Schuster, NYPIRG’s Environmental Campaign Coordinator (212) 349 – 6460, Schuster.Lauren@gmail.com for more information or with the names and contact info for all participants.

Get thee there posthaste!
